Aftercare Instructions

Second-Skin/Saniderm/Tegederm healing instructions

  1. you may keep the bandage on for up to 4 days. During this time, excess ink/plasma/blood will build up under the bandage. this is completely normal and to be expected. You can shower with this bandage on, however do not submerge in water (no swimming, hot-tubs, baths, etc.).

    • If the fluid under the bandage leaks, the bandage comes up and the tattoo is exposed, or if you sweat significantly, you must change the bandage. Do this by carefully removing the bandage in the shower. Gently wash the tattoo with fragrance-free antibacterial soap (Dial Gold is an example. Avoid bars of soap.) Allow the tattoo then to air-dry, or pat dry with a paper towel (Do not use a bath towel). Then, apply the new bandage by removing the white side of the bandage first, applying over the tattoo completely, and then peel from the orange arrows to remove the top layer. Then, wear this bandage for the remainder of the 4 days.

  2. After 4 days, carefully remove the bandage in the shower by gently pulling. Gently wash the tattoo with fragrance-free antibacterial soap (Dial Gold is an example. Avoid bars of soap.) Allow the tattoo then to air-dry, or pat dry with a paper towel (Do not use a bath towel). Then, apply a thin layer of fragrance-free moisturizer (Aveeno or Cera Ve is good, there are a lot of options that work). A little bit goes a long way!

  3. Repeat the washing and moisturizing process 1-2 times a day (more if you get dirty/sweaty) until healed, typically 2 weeks. Yay!

    • Remember that this healing process is extremely important to the outcome of the tattoo! Do not scratch, pick, or mess with the healing tattoo. Do not swim or be in direct sunlight for at least 3 weeks or until the tattoo is completely healed. Wait until the tattoo is 100% healed before applying sunscreen, before then, make sure it is covered if you’re going to be in the sun.

Allow the tattoo then to air-dry, or pat dry with a paper towel (Do not use a bath towel). Then, apply a paper thin layer of fragrance-free ointment (A&D, Redemption, Aquaphor, or other tattoo ointment). A little bit goes a long way! you don’t want to overdue it on this.

  2. Repeat the washing and applying ointment process 1-2 times a day (more if you get dirty/sweaty) for 4 days. Then, switch to a regular fragrance-free moisturizer (Aveeno or Cera Ve is good, there are a lot of options that work). Repeat that process 1-2 times a day until healed!
